Well our solar electricity system was installed today and now we are just waiting for the Electricity company to come and instal their meter and we are ready to go!!
I have strung out some lights for Christmas - about 35 metres - and guess what they are all powered by the sun!
Its really great - they come up at dusk and turn themselves off at sunrise. They are tiny little fairy lights and I have hung most of them in the trees at the front and one string along the front verandah.
So now we are celebrating Christmas but without the cost of electricity or its side effects.

Things you CAN do to help...
- Put a "No Junk Mail" sticker on your letterbox.
- Plant native plants in your garden to reduce the amount of water the garden needs. Don't forget to mulch!
- Compost your kitchen waste & recycle it onto your garden as mulch
- Calculate your carbon footprint
- Switch to Green Power for your electricity - call your provider & ask about their green options
- Install a solar water heater - save on your energy bill as well as helping the earth
- Use toilet rolls made from recycled paper
- Take shorter showers - 3 to 5 minutes.
- Rurn off your TV, DVD, computer, video when you are not using them. That little red light that shows things are on standby uses energy. Turn things off!
- Drive your car less - walk more - do yourself and the environment a favour at the same time!
- Wash your clothes in cold water
- Install low flow showerheads
- Make sure your tyres are at the correct pressure
- Reuse things - recycle if you can reuse
- Plant a tree - even 1 tree will absorb one ton of carbon dioxide during its lifetime.
- Replace your old light bulbs with energy efficient bulbs
